The Causes

Fen Challenge 2003 is raising money for two community
services:
Willingham Primary School
Working
in association with the Heritage Service FenPast Project team at
Cambridgeshire County Council, the Fen Challenge has created a 'Willingham
Tour' educational pack for the children which comprises a historical
record of Willingham as a typical fenland village. The pack will
be installed in the IT Suite for the children to learn about maps,
basic geography and appreciate how the village geography has changed
over the centuries, as well as using the Internet to use www.fenchallenge.org.uk.
The pack has been used to create instructional exercises and incorporated
into the Geography Schemes of work at the school.

The map and imagery data is viewed using MapSheets Express software
kindly provided by Leica
Geosystems. We are very grateful to The FenPast
team for supplying historical village mapping from the County archives
and also Wildgoose,
the education department of Getmapping plc, who specialise in Photopacks
and Locality packs for Primary School modules in the QCA Schemes
of work for Key Stage 2, for providing themed deskmats.
The sponsorship will go towards improving the IT Suite and Jo Brearley,
Head teacher at Willingham Primary School says that this is
such an innovative and intuitive use of maps, linking geography
and history and proving educational to the teaching staff too!
